ETN is the most comfortable bus transportation in Mexico. The nearest bus-station from La Manzanilla is in Barra de Navidad.

Another bus-line to Colima, Guadalajara and Mexico City is Primera Plus which also leaves from Melaque.

From Puerto Vallarta to La Manzanilla:
|
Primera Plus (English site) has two buses leaving Puerto Vallarta to Melaque at 7:45 and 12:15. The cost is $194 Pesos.
Transporte Cihuatlan has also two first class busses at 16:00 and 23:00.
If you arrive by plane in Puerto Vallarta late on the afternoon and do not want to take the late first class bus or a second class bus you have to stay overnight. Depending on where you stay you might get a taxi to the main bus station "central camionera" in the Northern part of Puerto Vallarta or in the old town in the Southern part at the corner of V. Carranza and Aguacate. First class busses take about 4 hours to Melaque. From Melaque to La Manzanilla you might take a taxi (around the corner of the bus station) or take the local bus.
Second class buses leave Puerto Vallarta about every hour. They take around 5 to 6 hours to Melaque. The second class bus can stop for you at the crossroad of La Manzanilla "cruzero de La Manzanilla" so you do not need to drive all the way to Melaque. From the crossroad you either walk to the village or catch a ride.

Primera Plus (English site) first class buses leave Melaque at 2:00 and 4:15. Cost is $194 pesos.
Autocamiones Del Pacifico, another first class bus leaves Melaque at 9:00 and 13:00. Cost is $209 pesos.

In La Manzanilla you can find taxis at the main square by the church or at the "triangle" near Hotel Tonala.
My favorites are Adolfo "El Torro": Cel 044 315 104 2683 and Jesus "El Caballito" 044 315 100 1826 (at day-time) or 044315 102 2843 (at night). Jesus speaks English.

BY PLANE:

Manzanillo has the nearest airport to La Manzanilla with only 45 to 60 minutes driving distance: Playa de Oro International Airport Manzanillo (ZLO). There are no buses available. A taxi for 3 - 4 persons plus luggage costs around $45 usd. For budget travelers it is recommended to either share a ride or only drive with the taxi to Cihuatlan and take the local bus from there.
The Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is about 3 1/2 hours driving distance to La Manzanilla but flights are often cheaper or international connections better.
Depending from where you come you might have to fly into Mexico City (MEX) and either take a connecting flight to Manzanillo or, if your plane arrives to late, stay over night. You might also take a taxi to the main bus station offering first class buses to our area (Central Camionera del Norte). The bus-ride takes about 12 hours.
